SPECIAL NOTES

Special Notes for Horizontal Purlin
Low Profile Intermediate & Bevel Cap Installation

Low profile intermediate and Bevel Cap are used in all sloped installations where horizontal purlins occur. The internal guttering of SuperSeal will drain both condensation and any leakage that may occur at the bottom of the installation and to the outside through the use of weep holes in the bottom perimeter. The use of Bevel cap allows for minimal damming behind the horizontal mullions on the outside. For low slope applications Bevel Cap may also be used over the lower perimeter base.  Using these shapes, very large arrays of overhead glass can be installed with proper drainage. Use all of the previously mentioned methods of Sure Seal installation with the following exceptions:

  1. Low profile intermediate base is used for cross rafter locations. The purlin supports need to be 3/16” higher than the rafters, or the low profile intermediates must be shimmed with 3/16” glazing tape (available from US Sky) or with wood shims or other material.
  1. Cut the low profile intermediate purlin base extrusion and install it so that it laps over the condensate gutter of the rafter runs at least 1/4” on each side. Remember to take into account the fact that metal shrinks and expands with changes in ambient temperature.
  1. The gasket on the rafter runs is reversed with the lip toward the inside (see Section B-B on Illustration 8) so the gasket flange does not interfere with the Bevel Cap.
