GLAZING
INSTALLATION
Glass units are installed after completion of all base extrusions.
It helps to have small (3-4”) lengths of SureSeal cap on hand
to hold the units prior to installation of cap. T-bar cut to 2” lengths
should be installed at the bottom of each glass opening one quarter
of the way in from each side of the glass. Be careful when cutting
these small pieces with the saw. We have found it convenient to predrill
the T-bar and then cut it leaving a 1/8” connection. This allows
you to simply twist off a piece when needed. For 1” glazing put
the long side of the T-bar toward the outside. For smaller size glazing
put the narrow side out. Settling blocks are placed on top of each
piece of T-Bar. If using 1” x 2” blocks place them so the
1” side is at the bottom of the SureSeal base and check to see
that the block supports both sides of insulated glass. The blocks may
be trimmed if necessary. The glass is placed on top of the setting
blacks. If your local glass supplier doesn’t have the rubber
blocks they can be ordered with the SureSeal.
Plastic glazing such as polycarbonate extruded sheet does not require
the use of setting blocks; however, follow the manufacturer’s recommended
installation instructions. NOTE: if using acrylic sheet it is best to
match the color of the glazing system with the color of the acrylic sheet:
bronze with bronze, white with clear. Use of bronze extrusions with clear
could cause softening of the acrylic in hot climated due to heat buildup
in the dark colored channels. This has not been a problem with polycarbonate
sheet.
Install all cap, making sure to properly size expansion joints. Tighten
cap bolts just enough to visibly compress the gaskets. Do
Not Over-Tighten! If over-tightened, the cap can bend and cause improper seal or difficulty
in inserting the trim. We recommend the use of a drill with a clutch
set on approximately 2 or 3. If a bolt hole is stripped, fill the hole
in the cap with sealant and drill a new hole for the bolt. |
